I hope you all had a great 4th of July and hopefully you had the opportunity to finally see some friends and/or family. My wife and I took a trip to beautiful San Diego to visit a long-time friend and his wife. Now we are back in Plano, TX, part of DFW, and back in the Great Plains. Definitely not as beautiful as San Diego but the show must go on, doesn’t it?. Working with Paid Search, I often use A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) for bidding strategies and campaign optimization. However, A.I. can have many applications in digital marketing. This blog will explore some of the impact of A.I.
In the mid 1950s, a group of scientists discovered that computers could manipulate numbers and symbols. This could be the essence of human thought and this was also the advent of creating “thinking machines”. The term Artificial Intelligence was coined. A.I. has of course come a long way since then. What are some of the application of A.I. in digital marketing?

Scaling performance and growth are like music to digital marketers. Often it is challenging but A.I. can analyze millions of data points quickly and identify the most profitable audience segment at the right time. In Google Ads, I often use the Observation Mode to “spy” on potential good audiences for the campaigns. In fact, it’s best practice that every PPC campaign has this mode set up. I would be lost without A.I. in PPC but, at the same, I need to often manually optimize campaigns without the interference of A.I. since it requires “creativity” or “thinking-outside-of-the-box”. A.I. could damage campaigns if it would have too much control.
A.I. has proved to be a viable game changer in email marketing. To build relationships with customers, past customers, and to engage in conversations, you need email marketing. Moreover, email marketing assists you to build a personalized experience with your customers. Below is a chart visualizing how A.I. can have a positive impact on email marketing:
Obviously, A.I. is not only going to impact digital marketing but since I’m a digital marketer, I might be a little biased. A.I. will also have an impact in healthcare, education, transportation, and manufacturing;
Recently, I wrote a blog about Virtual Reality. You can read my blog “Will Virtual Reality Disrupt Advertising and Give Early Adopters an Advantage?“. Thank you! VR (virtual reality) has incredible potential in regards to immersive shopping. In addition, A.I. can have a virtual sales associate in VR who can answer questions, give shopping recommendations and upsell based on collected data, and close transactions based. Amazing, isn’t it? I’m quite sure that we will have this exact scenario in the not too distant future. You don’t need to be an A.I. expert to understand the amazing possibilities. The possibilities will only increase and eventually solidify.
